Final 24

The world is a darkened place filled with darkened souls. The sounds of their movement are only a rustling of desire. Only by the manifestation of their desires are they perceived by one another. (The world sincerely hates sneaky people. They demand accountability by virtue of noise.)

I see the people of Christ as if they are glowing among the darkness. What they do in this blackened place is evident to anyone who is close enough to perceive them. At best, the desires of Christ are manifest by them. At worst they clothe themselves with a darkened garb. “If I fit in no one will pester me.”

Let the lighted ones watch what they do, mind their tongue with a jealous guard, beware of the things they let in through their eyes and ears, and deliver the Holy charge to be witnesses of God’s desire.

If God spoke to you in your prayer tonight saying, “At 8 o’clock in the morning, I will grant you 24 hours more. At that time I will require your soul to appear before me.”

What would you do with your last 24 hours here? Why not live every day you have as if that were the case? We would not deny him then, (even a tiny bit) why should we deny him any other time?

“Let your light so shine that men will see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.“

Being a Christian

This morning I see this:Darkness on the earth is witness to a hushed murmur of violence. The night is a cloak for the thieves.

They steal what they will; property, life and peace.

But this I perceived:

The world spins around causing the Sun to rise. And the noise of wickedness is no longer a murmur.

Now it is a deafening roar of greedy desire and wicked intent.

Their eyes open shooting fiery knives of blame. Dreams and nightmares give way to the reality of judgmental hearts.

The peace of the wee hours of the morning.

The time of prayer, time of reflection. The time to receive life from He who is Life. Clarity comes from Him. And in the clarity I can perceive as if indeed from some vast distance. The place where the splatter of blood cannot reach.

The night will come again. The thieves will sleep, the thieves will tiptoe about. But He who lives forever is Peace.

By the command of the Living God, His name is Jesus! Quiet your soul and trust Him. Listen intently for what cannot be heard. Search for what IS. His desire is for you. Doesn’t the blood beneath the cross prove His intent?

He is not a thief, unlike we who pray. He comes to grant life, wisdom, forgiveness, peace, joy, faithfulness, and doesn’t the list become endless? Those who learn to receive become like He. The spinning of the earth becomes far less fearsome.

This, is to be a Christian.

Freedom À la Violence

“Wherefore, if you see another sin openly or commit a serious crime, do not consider yourself better, for you do not know how long you can remain in good estate. All men are frail, but you must admit that none is more frail than yourself.” Thomas à Kempis

                          BE SOBER!

There is no one more vile than I. For no one is more adept at destroying the work of God than my selfish nature which lives within me.

No matter what knowledge I have concerning righteousness, my roommate called selfishness knows nothing, desires nothing, and can produce nothing on his own. At the base of things, he only knows how to play with mud.

What counsel is there in these things? I see this: be careful not to judge the sinners all around us. For with one touch of the love of God, anyone of them can out strip us with the doings of the Holy Spirit.   Despise the action, but be ready to embrace the actor.

The one to whom much is forgiven, the same will love much. The one who is released from the deepest and darkest of dungeons will love the open spaces more. He understands captivity, and now embraces freedom with a violence.

But the one who does not perceive his own wickedness, this one sees no need to praise. Righteous humility eludes him.

God has raised mighty men from the sewer in the past. Rest assured, he is doing so today.

Why Such Choices?

Why does someone say there is no God? Why does someone believe they cannot be saved, even though the testimony of the Gospel says otherwise?

Why does someone continue to trust their own strength, even though they have seen themselves fail miserably time after time, and have no hope that that will change? Instead of looking up to God and asking for help, in everything, they resign themselves to failure.

Scarred through and through, they continue to lead a helpless and hopeless life.

Why?

I don’t have a PhD in psychology. I don’t even have a Masters of anything. But I’m going to take a stab at the answer with one word, and I am absolutely sure I’m right.

PRIDE

Freedom or Chains

I wanted to be careful about how I wrote this. But then the Lord reminded me, “Every word of God can be misused”. So I’ll just write what I saw and let be what will be.

It is not the size of our sin that condemns us to hell. It is the size of our faith to receive his desired gift of forgiveness.

We were dead in our trespasses. We can’t possibly know the grandeur of that death. Likewise, with his forgiveness we are offered eternal life. We can’t possibly know the grandeur of what he holds in his hand.

But what if someone holds onto remorse and shame, thus spitting into the hand who offers life? Hiding in the shadows, not daring to draw near.

Do you believe? Then take his joy. Take his strength. Take his fearless abandon. Take his dedication. Take his wisdom. Take his godly and never ending love.

Aren’t those the things that are spawned by the forgiveness he offers? For by those things we approach the throne of the living God with confidence. There we learn things we did not know. There we are strengthened by the touch of his hand or the smile on his face. But without forgiveness, God remains no more than a religion. And the shadow of death is our closest friend.

Useful Contrasts

We best define the Sun light
By the darkness of the night.

A thirsty throat can sing so well

Of a fresh and vibrant flowing well.

A body racked with pain

Speaks best of peace to gain.

And I suspicion thoughtfully

Defining love is brought to be

When the lack thereof oppresses me.
